What kind of role are you playing at this moment in your life? Are you living a caterpillar existence, or are you tucked away in a chrysalis crisis, or are you flying high among the flowers? A caterpillar emerges from its tiny egg into a world full of greenery waiting for him to eat it. It spends its life eating, sleeping and getting bigger. It is well positioned, got lots of legs to keep its body steady and progressing from one good thing to another. But if a caterpillar is going to mature there is a rite of passage to experience first . The chrysalis is waiting for the right time to arrive. It must be remain closed for as long as it takes for the insect to emerge transformed when the job is done. The butterfly is a delicate creature. Unlike the caterpillar she is very vulnerable, when she emerges from her chrysalis she has to learn to recover, to dry her wings and to move on to higher levels than she could have achieved before. I believe most of us are caterpillars, life is good so why change it? We are comfortable in our life style and not aiming particularly high, being content to climb a few stems but not to take our feet off the ground. Crises are an unavoidable part of our lives, we have to go through them but unlike the caterpillar we can choose how we react to the change that a crisis can bring about. We have the choice either to learn from it and spread our wings or go back to being a caterpillar again. It takes courage to aspire to being a butterfly. Vulnerability is not something we welcome but if we choose such a life we explore the potential that we would otherwise never know was ours to develop. What do you aspire to in the New Year ahead?

This is a nice analogy but you haven't mentioned moths.

Perhaps you might like to have a try. I don't find moths so inspiring - I think it is because they tend to fly towards me whereas butterflies stay with the flowers.
