The Best and the Worst

United States
December 31, 2021 10:34pm CST
It's about 30 minutes before midnight on December 31st, 2021. My husband said today that he thought all in all 2021 was a pretty good year. I reminded him that my Mom died in 2021. That was not a good thing. So I started thinking of the best and the worst things of this year. And here they are: The Worst: My mom dying in a Hospice in March 2021 The Best: After having 4 cruises canceled due to Covid, the hubby and I got to go on a cruise in November of 2021...finally! We are both happiest individually and as a couple on a cruise ship. What was your best and worst of 2021?

2021 was pretty level. Not a chance to go out and about, but I did get to cycle in Kew Gardens, so that must the highlight of the year!

@Kouponkaren They are in West London and a very good place to have a wander in. The bike ride was a special event and booked a few months ahead. Most enjoyable.

@Ronrybs I have heard of the Hew Gardens but don't know much about them. What city are they located in?

@Ronrybs Sounds like a great experience. I would love to get back to London someday. We have only been for 1-day excursions from a cruise ship, so didn't get to experience the real London. One day it rained all day and we spent 3 hours going around on a Hop On Hop Off bus, but never "hopped off" because the rain was so heavy. Well, at least we saw the sights!

The worst was watching Ally, my dog, dying back in January and February than having to put her down in March. The depression I felt after is what led me to adopt Roscoe, he was by far the best thing. I'll never be bored while he's in my life.

Oh how rude of me, My condolences for the loss of your Mom, that is so much worse than my loss. I am blind when it comes to the beginning of 2021, all I remember is the sadness which I am sure you also remember .... thanks for being so understanding.

@Kouponkaren Oh no, it's okay. My mom had been going downhill for a long time so we sort of expected it. So I understand what you went through with your dog because we went through asad time when our dog had kidney disease in 2017 and we watched her go downhill for a month before we had to put her down when she was suffering too much.

@rebelann Oh gosh, I so sorry about the loss of your dog Ally. That must have been so very hard for you. But I am glad you adopted Roscoe. We adopted our dog Jenny in 2020 and she has been a bright addition to our lives.

The best is that I didn't get Covid, nor any immediate family members. The worst, losing a dear friend who was a couple years younger to Covid. I hope and pray that Covid will take a hike in 2022.

@Kouponkaren I try to pop in as much as I can. There is a lot going on. I am at the boutique one afternoon till 6 (was 7 in Dec.) and longer if customers in store at closing. Then I have to keep inventory ordered and stocked. My mom in nursing home...never ending drama there with the staff creating problems. I do need to slow down a bit!!

@kareng Haven't seen you on here in a while. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and that the new year will be good to you. I am with you on Covid leaving us in 2022.

@kareng Yes, maybe 2022 is the year to start slowing down. Life comes at us so fast sometimes. It is good to slow down and take it all in.

The worst 2021 is my dad passing away. The best 2021 is me and my family are healthy and safe and together, staying happy. That's all that matters

Just like you. My mother was also hospitalized in March and May. And in 2021 my mother passed away. The best in my life, throughout 2021 I will remain healthy and free from the corona virus, and God is still giving me the breath of life, so that I can live this 2022 healthily. Happy new year to you and your family too. Wishing you more success in 2022 and stay healthy with your family.

@kouponkaren Best was moving from a really crappy house bombarded with noise to a ‘gentleman’s residence’ (sprawling abode with extensive grounds kept by a groundsman) just beyond the city limits. Worst was my father’s sharp health decline.

@xFiacre I am happy for you and your new residence, but sad for your father's decline in health. But at least you still have him. Cherish your time with him.
