The Blue Zones Inspire Me

Do you know what The Blue Zones are? I am rather obsessed with the Blue Zones. A man named Dan Buettner wrote an article for National Geographic about the places in the world where the largest percentage of people lived to be 100 or more. That was fascinating to me because my goal is to live to be 100. So I started reading about the Blue Zones and found there are five Blue Zones in the following places: Ikaria Greece, Okinawa Japan, Ogaliastra Sardinia, Loma Linda California, and Nicoya Penninsula, Costa Rica. There are 9 things that the Blue Zones have in common. But I don't want to misquote them so instead I will just let you discover it for yourself by Googling the Blue Zones website if you are interested in finding out more. But my main reason for writing this is to ask you if you would like to live to be 100?

@Kouponkaren From what you have said about your health and mobility Would I be unkind in suggesting the odds of you getting a telegram from the Queen is quite remote

@JimBo452020 Well, my mobility is improving. The Bursitis was much better yesterday and the same for today. I have heard there are sneakers that are really good for those with bursitis. I may look into them. I don't have bursitis all the time. When it isn't flaring up, I am perfectly fine, with no aches or pains.

@JunBo452020 Ha ha, there you go, making me laugh again. Bursitis comes and goes so I shouldn't have it every day at 100.

@snowy22315 You are correct about the weather. I hadn't realized that. They eat mostly vegetables and only eat meat a few times per year at celebrations.

It depends on whether my mental and physical faculties are intact--if so, yes!

@Kouponkaren My mother in law will be 100 this month--slow-moving these days, but always in good spirits. She taught piano and literacy in the jails up until about 5 years ago.

I take care of myself, but do not have any real control over how long I will live. I am ready to go when the good Lord calls me home.

No, I doubt my health would be good by then. If I could decide it, I would like for my husband and I to die at the same time, but that's up to God. Maybe we'll go in the Rapture with Jesus.

@1creekgirl That would be perfect for many married Christian couples.

From what I know, they enjoy fine weather, are active, eat little to no meat, and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. I’d be concerned about eating anything from Japan due to the radiation there.

It depends, if I were strong enough to walk without a walker and had a sound mind then yes I would but if I become frail and need people to assist me and have dementia then no.

As long as I am independent yes, which is unlikely to happen. Recently as I learn about the advances in technology I feel a little fearful about whether I could cope with artificial intelligence though. I am afraid of the kind of world that we might be experiencing in the not too distant future.

41CombedaleRoad I know what you mean about technology. And I feel the same as you in terms of independence.

I want to live to be 100 as long as I can take care of myself like I do now.

So long as you have reasonable health and are active and mobile it works for me!

@Janet357 Yes, I do find it very interesting. I think I would have to grow a garden which I am not doing now. I live in the woods with red clay soil. Not real conducive to gardens.
