Revived an old tradition.

Yesterday, George and I did something we really hadn't done in years. And, that was go out on New Years day. Before, when we lived in our first couple of apartments, we would go out (usually to target) on New Years day. Usually it would be cold, rainy and one of those days where you'd sleep in. Then, George started getting a few shifts on New Years day and the tradation just kind of died. This year, we did our weekly grocery shopping. You guessed it, on new years day. I am thankful for hot, sunny weather instead of wet and cold. While it wasn't a marathon, we also watched an episode of Monk, another thing we used to do when we'd get back from Target. (Okay so we didn't go to target this time.... but still...) You see my point. I hope this tradation lasts. Next year, George hopes to retire.

I am so envious of your weather! Freezing here (MS) and went from week with temps in high 70's to drizzle and 40's today with dip down to high 20's tonight. I'm not looking forward to the next 2-3 days as this is hanging around a bit.

It's supposed to drop a good ten degrees. Still comfortable, but less hot. So far Winter's looking quite mild.

@kaylachan Yes, in your neck of the woods!! We had that winter blast last week and we were in the low 20's for a couple of nights and low 30's following that. I'm done with winter now. I want my Spring!!

@kareng I can understand that. Today was quite comfortable. But temps are expected to drop, again. Not that low, but it's still winter for a couple more months.

We went out for NYE. Went to a Japanese restaurant and to a light show at some botanical gardens. I hadn't gone out for NYE for many years either. I was glad.

I hope he gets to retire as he hopes. I love being retired, I can choose if and when I want to do any thing ..... of course Roscoe chooses for me these days, he requires constant attention plus I'm trying to train him.

Well you know what they say about pets... we don't own them, they own us. He sure has you wrapped around his little finger.

Yeah, he does but I have him wrapped round mine too, he's actually coming along nicely especially now that his attention span has gotten longer.

Now that Jay is finally retired, we go grocery shopping about once a week together. Never on New Years Day.

We've been going out twice, and George still has ten months left to go. He likes the idea of breaking up things, so it's not so overwhelming. In this way we're only going out for an hour and a half to two. Instead of three and four if it's needless.

@kaylachan We do stop at WalMart at other times, for a gallon of milk of a loaf of bread. Our main load of shopping is about every two weeks in Bay City, Michigan. Aldi's have things that we can't find here, plus its prices are better. Krogers is another franchise, certain items we buy there, also. Plus, it's a day for us to get away from Tawas as a couple, to enjoy the sunshine and forget about what time it is.

@kobesbuddy I think that's cool. George live in a sort of large city type situation. We have several Aldi stores around here, and it's the only place George will buy cat litter. The furtherst we'll go, is Ormand or Port Orange, and you can drive through those in-between cities seemsly. The only way you know you're in another zipcode is if GPS tells you, or you see a sign.

We cannot go out anywhere on New Years Day as everything is closed here. We stayed home and had a nice day together.

Here in the U.S. Apart from govornment-run buildings, everything is business as usual. Irronically, New Years Day landed on a Saturday this year. So most banks would've been closed, anyway.

@kaylachan Although most of our banks are open for part of the day on Saturdays, it is not considered to be a business day so pre-authorized debits and direct deposits do not occur.

That is wonderful that you were able to revive the tradition, I know it made you feel good like back when you did it all the time, The weather has been nice and sunny lately and comfortable for a change, I used to love watching Monk now if I want I can get it for free streaming on Peacock TV

I like going out on New Year’s Day but old folks used to tell us it’s not good to spend money on the first day of the year because you’ll end up spending money all year round

Those sound like nice traditions if they make you happy. We don’t go out, but luckily I found a hardware store open for hubs to buy something he needed that moment.
