An early supper

Nairobi, Kenya
January 11, 2022 9:41am CST
Today has been a good day but I haven't watched TV. We had no electricity since morning. The electricity came and went four times. Now I hear that my whole town is experiencing electricity problems. So I decided to have an early supper today because I don't want to wait until it is completely dark. This also means I will sleep earlier today unless the electricity comes back so I can charge my phone. My supper is hard porridge with boiled chicken. This chicken has no tomatoes or onions. It was first roasted at my rural home and my father came home in the city with it. Then mum boiled it and added salt although I would have preferred it with tomatoes. It is still soft and sweet.

A combination of chicken and porridge is a rare dish in my country. We do a combination of chicken with rice or chips or hard porridge. I hope so too. Thank you.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence but I've heard we're approaching an electricity crisis. A few hours off would be okay, but I can't imagine being without power for days. We rely so much on it, from ovens to fridges and even the things I use to respond to this discussion. Hopefully electricity will come back soon at your place. Nice you found a way to have dinner.

@mildredtabitha Yes, worldwide. Hopefully it won't happen anytime soon. Most electricity is still produced by burning fossils such as oil or coal, and the demand increases more and more with the years. Green energy is unlikely to be enough, I guess nuclear energy is the only one left.

Electricity crisis! You mean worldwide? That would be terrible! I do hope that electricity comes back.

@sabtraversa I hope it won't happen soon either. In my country, the electricity is generated by the water in the dams.

@mildredtabitha Did your electricity come on while you were up or during the night when you slept? You are welcome.

Yeah, I think you're good at early dinners too. I'm afraid if you eat in the dark your side dish of chicken thighs could be lost. I hope the electricity in your home, or in your city, returns to normal.

yes, and I don't want it to get lost in the dark. I hope so too. I have missed two of my favorite shows on tv today.

@mildredtabitha it's really annoying when the electricity at home goes out. because of course we can't turn on the TV to watch our favorite films. Hopefully the electricity in your home will be back on soon. So that you can watch your favorite shows on TV.

It's good you had your meal rather than wait till later. It's very inconvenient when the power goes off.
