I Might Have COVID

The Omicron variant of COVID has been spreading like crazy here in the United States, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, has expressed that we may well all get it. ALL of us. 336,000,000 people?!? Yep, that's the US population. Believe it or not, we are third most populous country in the world, after China and India. And with only 63.9% of our population fully vaccinated, that's a lot of potentially severe sickness. Fortunately, I'm one of the vaccinated ones. I received my Pfizer series last spring, and then I went back for a booster in early November. I opted to get the Moderna booster after finding out it was higher dose. I explained to the people at the vaccination clinic that I opted for Moderna "because it has more stuff, and I want more stuff." Well. "more stuff" means "more side effects". I had several days' worth of misery from that booster - much more than with the Pfizer shots. Of course, I was philosophical about it - if there were no side effects at all, I would be worried that it wasn't working. So I cheerfully suffered, although I did have to call out of work for one day due to joint pain in my hip. See, I work outside the home. And I sit at a reception desk where I have to talk to a lot of people coming in, not just my coworkers. So even though I wear a mask and am careful, I was concerned that I would probably get COVID at some point. However, for people who are vaccinated, it seems to be more likely to be a mild case, especially with the Omicron variant. On Thursday, I was coughing a good bit in the morning. I didn't have a fever, but my boss said I should go ahead and go home just to be on the safe side. I was able to get a COVID test the same day, but it does take 2-3 days to get results, so I'm just waiting now. I have a bit of a cough, some congestion, and a mild headache that comes and goes, but otherwise, I really feel okay. If it turns out I actually have COVID, I'm going to have a laugh if I got a worse time from the booster shot than from the actual disease! I have some friends who have had it, and they also had very mild cases, so I'm optimistic. We purchased a small pulse oximeter from Amazon back when this started, which I would HIGHLY recommend that all of you do. It measures oxygen concentration in the blood, and it's extremely easy to use. If your oxygen level drops below 90%, go to the hospital ASAP. It's supposed to be as close to 100% as possible. Mine is at 97%, so I'm good. Just trying to get lots of rest and to be careful to not infect my husband. Wish me luck!

The test came back negative (after a WEEK!), so I guess I didn't, but I definitely had something. It never got really bad, though. It felt like something that was trying to take hold and my body just fought it off, so if it wasn't COVID, it might have been the flu. I got my flu shot, as well.

@AliCanary No free test here. It's very expensive so we just self isolate here

You shouldn't rely on luck. The vaccine is what protects most people from getting seriously sick.

@AliCanary Depends on one's lifestyle Mixing with people is the main cause I am a home body and never let anyone in unless they have a mask on, sanitize themselves and maintain a distance. We have loads of trees around us and that keeps the pandemic away We often disinfect the place around too.

You could have it but they don’t actually test you to see what variant you have. They can tell from a certain degree depending on your symptoms which one it might be but they just test you for Covid and the Covid test picks up all of them regardless of which one you have. I hope you just have a cold. My husband was saying there is a several different virtual inflection going around one in which can leave a bacterial infection in the lungs. Which I’m kind of thing I have since last week for like 3-4 days I was sick with a cold. Yes it wasn’t Covid. I’d my lungs still feel like this after next week I’ll have my husband set an appointment at his office to see my doctor on his next day off.

I haven't yet received my results (yes, its been WAY too long), but I would be very surprised if it wasn't Covid. I got well MUCH faster than I ever have with a cold, and I think it's because I'm vaccinated. It really felt like there was something that was trying to make me sick, and it just absolutely lost the fight, lol

@AliCanary still could be any other virus under the son. Won’t know till you get the results back then you can say for sure it wasn’t Covid.

Vince now has a new watch as he had a scare with his heart. It shows blood oxygen levels and a heap of other stuff as well. I hope you have avoided covid. Although it might be a milder dose, it's better to avoid it completely if you can.

@AliCanary It would be scary for the reasons you mention. Some get really ill; others not so much.

I definitely did not want it, mild or not, but at least I seem to be okay. I never felt particularly bad - the cough was just a little annoying. Of course, it was definitely scary at first, because I didn't know what was going to happen.

I actually still don't know--it's been a week and I haven't gotten my test results. I seem to have fully recovered from whatever it was.

My family is fully vaccinated , this gives a little peace of mind , because with the vaccine there is a chance to get sick without serious consequences

Yes, I am pretty sure that's what happened with me. I have a few friends who are fully vaccinated and boosted and did catch it, but recovered very quickly. I did, too!

There's less danger outside, but if I'm around people, I leave it on. The virus is carried respiratory droplets, and while it's true that they disperse in the air, they might hit me on the way!

Sorry for your condtion. Hope you get well. Oximeters in the Philippines are hardly affordable among many of the poor. So sad.
