Waiting for a dentist appointment

Or procedure, so I thought I would pop on. Previous to 2019, I hadn’t been to the dentist in like 15 years. Had/have a bit of a phobia. Was TERRIFIED of the dentist actually, especially for whatever reason, always afraid of them telling me that “sorry, we can’t do anything for you, we’ll have to pull them all out”. (I am sure this very rarely happens).
I found a dentist at the recommendation of an old coworker who says they are very good with anxious patients. They can give you calming drugs…are very sensitive to you…. And for fillings or procedures they have a TV and headphones you can watch while they drill away! Doesn’t completely help but it does help a lot.
So since 2019, I’ve gotten 2 root canals and 2 crowns, 1 bridge, many cavities filled, a bridge redone because I cracked it due to night time teeth grinding, wisdom teeth pulled, an abuttment placed for an implant needed…. And lots of scraping. I have spent thousands out of pocket because my insurance (and most insurances) only cover very little.
Anyway, the best way to get over it has been to find a place where people are nice, get that silly gas, and some places will offer clients a Valium or some other calming drug (which I used the first few times for sure), and watch TV, and close your eyes and bide your time. And take a nap afterwards. Just repeatedly going has helped me get over the fear… I feel like a “regular”,
Today, I am getting a crown (No root canal) on a cracked tooth, 2 small cavities filled, and an implanted tooth placed. Then, I pray, I will be done with these procedures. Not to mention costing
$1,900 out of pocket
. And it’s going to be about. 3 hours of being worked on. I am anticipating pain but don’t feel like crazy anxiety/phobia fear that I used to have.
My next fear to overcome will be blood draws and IVs, I am terrified of them! So scared!
Do you have any fears?
Wish me luck with this dental work!

I hear all the things you're saying. I eventually found a kind dentist and it made all the difference. But now we've moved and I have to find a new one.

I had a root canal and crown last year, they were both painless except for the attack on my wallet.
. I probably need a periodontist though, and that fills me with dread, not only because of what they might say...but the costs.
