Teenage Memories

When I was about fourteen or fifteen I had a girlfriend who had a sad family history. I will name her Linda for privacy reasons. Her parents were divorced and she lived with her mom who was an alcoholic. I recall one time her mother was upset with her about something and actually chased her around two or three rooms of their house with a knife. I was there and witnessed it. Linda would often wait for her mom to fall asleep(usually in a drunken stupor) and then she would leave. One time she and I took her mom's old beat-up car over to the next town(about eight miles) to visit her boyfriend. He was a tuffy. He was rich, drove a Ford Mustang and we partied in his parent's bomb shelter. One time in the summer Linda came home from staying with her grandparent's and her boyfriend wasn't happy with her about some stupid thing. He made her disrobe and run around the house several times. Linda did finally get away from him, thank goodness. Fast forward 20+ years I found her hubbies number and called it. Just wanted to see how she was doing. She was at work. He and I talked a long time about the old times when we were younger and I asked him to have Linda call me back. He assured me he would. I never heard back from her. I think that her thinking of me brought back too many bad memories. I would have liked to have chatted to her a bit and deduced if she had changed any over the years. I don't know what made me think of her.

That might be the reason and sometimes it's for the best to keep the past behind and totally cut off from any bad memories..Linda did have a very rough past but I am glad that all is okay with her now.

@celticeagle If I was in your place, I too would have loved to connect back to an old good friend. And not getting to hear back would be hurting too. I am not sure if she actually got the message from her husband.

I just sent a message on our high school alumni site to a guy that I "dated" back in junior high. I had been thinking of him recently and had a question for him.

It's so sad that she had to deal with all of this. I hope she's doing alright.

I know. I do too. THat's why I had called, wondering how life was treating her then.

Her husband did not give her the message. That is what I think anyway.

He was a real down-to-earth type. I would think he would have.
