A Long Island grandmother teams up with police to catch a scam artist

A former Nassau County dispatcher of 20 years named Jean used her smarts to assist the Nassau Police to arrest a scam artist who called her at home earlier this week asking her to pay $8,000 dollars to him to bail out her grandson who was in prison after a car accident where he was drunk. Jean normally would hang up the telephone ignore the request of the scam artist. However Jean decided to play a game against the scam artist by telling him to come to her home in Seaford to collect the money. After Jean hung up the telephone, she contacted the Nassau Police Department to come to her home when the scam artist would come to collect the money. When the scam artist came to her home to collect the money which Jean had in an envelope that had paper towels inside when the police caught the scam artist and arrested him. The alleged scam artist was identified as Joshua Estrella Gomez of Mineola who will likely think twice before making phone calls to elderly persons trying to rip them off of their hard earned money again. The rule of thumb for anyone dealing with a scam artist is to hang up the phone and ignore their request.
