Nazis and the Japanese had started these experiments and research in concentration camps. Nazi doctors had done extensive experiments with mescaline in the Dachau concentration camp. The CIA brought these doctors and torturers to Fort Detrick, Maryland where the MK-Ultra program was based. They were also told about the poison sarin and how long it took people to die from it. They even used captured European spies for their experiments feeling that they were expendable.
Gottlieb's superior, Richard Helms, was removed from his office of the director of the CIA, in 1973 when Richard Nixon took office. Helms was the only one in the CIA who knew what Gottlieb was doing and, with him gone it was only a matter of time until Gottlieb would be removed as well. So, the two men decided to get rid of all proof of MK-Ultra. Gottlieb even drove out to the CIA records center and destroyed boxes and boxes of records. They thought they had eliminated all but it was later that some records were found by other means. Expense account information was found and enough other paperwork to reconstruct some of what they did.
Journalist Stephan Kinzer, who spent several years investigating the program says that program MK-Ultra was the "most sustained search in history for techniques of mind control."

First I want to congratulate you for doing a great series that should be discussed. I highly doubt MK-Ultra has ended, it likely has only evolved and gone deeper under cover under an assumed name. I know the program involved Japan, Germany, Canada and the USofA at a minimum. These were some very sick people.
On another more recent note I have no doubt MK-Ultra has its impact on our current affairs. Now that much of the crap about our world leaders is out of the bag they have mostly thrown caution to the wind and are full steam ahead. Slowly but surely they are creating 'their' ideal world and in their world 8 billion people are nothing more than pawns.
