What's Out There?

I'm reading that the U.S. has 741 million acres of forest. (Only about 7.5% of the world's forests.) I have camped out many times with family and husbands. I've never had a bad or weird experience. Just a lot of green and wood and animals. I wonder if I missed anything.
Am watching "These Woods Are Haunted" on the Travel Channel. Creepy scary stories of people's experiences in forests across the United States. Hairy, 7 feet tall, growling.....what is it? Is this why we always have a fire going when we are camping out?
It gets very dark in those woods. Besides birds, deer, bears, chipmunks, etc. what else do you think is out there?

I have hiked for decades in the foothills of Mt. Diablo, here in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. We have coyotes, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, deer, wild pigs, squirrels of all kinds hawks, eagles, etc. No bears any more.
I always feel safe when hiking or camping here. The more "dangerous" critters tend to avoid pink and brown hairless creatures (humans).

I've been camping before, and I got mostly bug bites. So, those are out there, too.

I believe that too. I think for most wild animals a fire is enough of a deterrent.

True. I don't know why people would go alone into the woods to spend a night.

I don't think Big Foot is out there. Just bears and wild cats, etc.
