Short story: A tale about the mind, and the heart

The old preacher had sat down on the park bench in the park, with the intention, to read a few paragraphs from his bible, intending to choose his readings, for his next week's weekly sermon.
His mind was fixed intently on his reading, when he felt a tugging at his heart.
He looked all around him, and he saw nothing.
And so, he then stood up, and he had a second, more thorough, look around his immediate surrounds.
It was then that he saw someone sitting up on a high branch of the tree behind him.
This man was grinning, as he told him,
"Most people do not ever notice that I am here, overlooking them on that bench, so how was it that you knew that I was here, my friend?"
The preacher man replied:
"Even with my mind engaged, my heart always remains open to any need that is situated in my vicinity."
"What is your need, my friend?"
The man looked at Fred, the old preacher, and simply said.
"To be noticed for who I am. You have done that for me now."
And with that, he was gone.
"Perhaps, it was just a figment in my imagination,"
the old preacher-man thought to himself,
"or perhaps, it was one of God's angels sent to test if my heart remained opened, to my surrounds, even as I read his scriptures."

Fred always obeyed quickly any pulling, or tugging, that he felt in his heart.
Fred knew that it was a gentle nudging of him, by God.

Yes, I need to be more sensitive to those nudges too.
I often push past them, and ignore them, not appreciating the value of them, until it is too late, and the moment of value is by then, usually already passed.

Well, he seemed to be there, as he spoke to Fred, but when Fred looked away, down at the ground for a moment, to gather his thoughts, again, after his reply, when he looked up again, the man was gone.
Had he just quickly slipped down, out of the tree, and run away, had he hidden quickly behind the back of the tree, as the trunk was wide, and thick, or was it all only in his imagination, a vision?
Sometimes, we can never answer these types of questions, for sure, and so Fred was left here guessing about what had really happened to him too.

@askme123 Yes, reality has a thin veil sometimes, that we can see past, in a vision.
I have had a few of these myself.
Sometimes, I am praying, and I see a light, with a man in that light, then I will open my eyes to see if it is real, or not. I did that once too, and I still saw the light, so I closed my eyes again, and went on with the vision, which continued, in a nice way, that moved me, forever, and changed my life too.
I have written about that vision here too, before.

It is always good to keep an open mind and a warm heart that welcomes.

Yes, those two things, (an open mind, and a warm heart) are both needed, if we are to live an aware life, and give a helping hand to others too.

Yes,, most get carried away by paying only lip service than practicing by imbibing the scriptures in all earnestness.
Fred has obviously gone the distance and benefited thereby.
The heart is what matters when it comes to spiritual enhancement.

@Shiva49 Yes, nothing can stand against truth, and be higher than it.
People chase the shadows of truth, though, thinking it to be the real truth, when really it always turns out to just be a shadow, created by their own mind, of their own ideas about truth too.

@innertalks Truth and earnestness will prevail in the end while falsehood, hypocrisy, shallowness, and pride will go before a fall and for a toss sooner or later.
