Better Than an Ice Storm!

Three days I’ve been gone. Three days I’ve had rain. But it’s better than an ice storm!!! First things first: I’ve been keeping tabs on things at home. I’m so thankful that there were no major power outages. Everyone was worried about this storm being “another 2009,” when an ice storm knocked out power to about 2/3 of Louisville. The major difference is that, in 2009, that ice storm came less than five months after Hurricane Ike, so a lot of the trees were already compromised and weak. I always say that what Ike didn’t get, the ice storm did. None of that this time, thank God!!! Meanwhile, as you can see from the photo of Panama City Beach, I’m not exactly having a sunshine party here in the Sunshine State. In fact, the temperature dropped about 20 degrees while I was napping in a rest area. I drove to Tallahassee and into 65-degree weather, only to be greeted with another temperature drop in the time it took me to eat dinner. But it’s better than an ice storm. I had a lovely drive along the coast on U.S. Highway 98. It was amazing to see how well the area has recovered from 2018’s Hurricane Michael. I didn’t get all the way down to Mexico Beach, which is where the hurricane made landfall; however, I am very thankful to see that the area I was in has rebounded quickly and nicely. No trip along the coast is complete without a stop to walk along the beach. This time around, the high winds, rain, and red flag warnings kept me off the beach proper. I did, however, stroll along the sand dunes and admire the beauty of the Gulf of Mexico. Even on a blustery, rainy day it’s beautiful. And better than an ice storm!

@BarBaraPrz — okay, I’ll stay away, just in case. The one promising thing is that the last time I was in Florida, covid started. Maybe it’ll end now that I’m back.

It seems to me just about anything would be better than an ice-storm.

The sun is out today. Cold by Florida standards (42) but what the heck.

I looked at the 2 inches of rain in the gauge outside my door and was very thankful that it wasn't ice and it wasn't snow. I have family that have so much snow right now they no longer have any place to put it.

I saw Daddy Evil was having a door-busting sale, you come to his house and can buy a truckload for just a dollar. JJ is running that sale, too. What nice guys! The thing I’m most thankful for is that there were no large-scale power outages at home. Maybe 1,700 people max at one time. And the power was restored quickly. When there’s a single-digit low expected that’s truly a blessing.

@SophiaMorros — I told my brother you can shovel sleet. And you can shovel snow. You can’t do diddly poo with ice.

@FourWalls Three weeks ago we had a storm that dropped about 5 inches of sleet on us...much better than the ice-rain they had been forecasting. We had minimal damage and power outages versus the catastrophic situation they were predicting.

Ice storms are bad news due to the loss of electrical power. I can handle not having telephone service and internet service for a short time like today due to the cold wind and the temperature being in the mid 40s F.
