Cleaning After Sickness

I was doing my usual reading on the internet and came across an article about laundry cleaning. Found it interesting and hadn't though of it before. I do like to clean the laundry and bed linens after a person has been sick. Clean around their rooms and usually spray Lysol disinfectant spray too. But, this article says that doing the laundry you should put on disposable gloves to pick up and transfer the clothes to the washer, then take off the gloves and dispose of them. Wash your hands immediately and then put on more disposable gloves to take the clothes from the washer and put in the dryer. Then wash your hands again immediately. Disinfect every surface and place a fresh disposable bag liner in the trash as well. You can use soap and water and then go over surfaces with disinfectant and let it dry. Now, I do clean after a person has been sick but I never thought to use the disposable gloves. What do you think? Do you do all of these steps or.......?

No one has ever been that sick here, but it sounds like a good idea.

Ya, we don't get that sick here either. Good to know though. And I am in deep clean mode here.

@DianneN .......My ex was the same way. He was in construction and some days he would come home and looked like he had dust on him and saw dust mixed. In my nice, clean home.

@celticeagle I’m always in deep clean mode. I follow hubs around with a can of Lysol and wipes after he returns home. I stop the second he scrubs his hands

I could definitely see using disposable gloves when putting the linens into the washer. You should use a disinfecting laundry detergent. Then the sheets, etc. will be clean.

No. I don't. I think it's a waste of gloves, and an extra step you don't need. I might wash my hands after I transfer to the dryer, but that's usually it.

Ya, me too. Or after putting the laundry soap in cause I get some on my hands sometimes.

I do too. I learned how to wash them in Home Nursing class when I was in junior high back about 55 years ago.

I do wash my hands as they suggest after placing the laundry in my washer/dryer combo (even when nobody has been sick), but I think the disposable gloves are overkill.

Washing hands is a big deal around here. Trying to get my grandson to do so is like pulling teeth.
