The Stand-Off

This morning while I was busily earning my paycheque, Smoky decided that he wanted to sit in the sun, on my mouse-pad. We’ve had this stand-off before. Our house has exactly one south-facing window, and that is the one I gaze out of while listening to hold music (actually that is an outright lie. I do look out the window, but usually, if I am listening to hold music, I am working on a digital jigsaw puzzle on my secondary monitor). My mousepad is located in the primary sunny spot in my home. Smoky is old (18) and more than a little grumpy. He likes company, but if anything is done to offend him he WILL retaliate. He’s bitten me a couple of times when I have had the audacity to interrupt his sun-bathing by touching the mouse. He bites just hard enough to hurt but not hard enough to break the skin. I gently eased the mouse away from the mousepad so I could maneuver it on my desk calendar. He turned from looking out the window and intently watched my hand. Surprisingly he did not attack so I let him keep his spot. Maybe he has learned that nipping my hand will earn him a very quick trip outside. @JudyEv you can clearly see the colour of my desk-top…and the pile of clutter on the far end.

That's a very tidy desk compared to Vince's. I love poor old Smoky. He certainly looks as if he is just waiting for you to make a wrong move.

@SophiaMorros I have a wire basket that takes all the papers, journals, letters that arrive. Once it starts to overflow, I get to and go through it.

In all honesty I did tidy it up yesterday. It has reached the point that it was starting to bug me.

As long as he's allowed to sunbathe it should be more than fine.

I suppose that Smoky has tenure over the mouse pad, he is entitled to his place in the sun. I can't say that your desk top is cluttered, just full of essentials.

@sophiamorros Even though his face is hidden in the photo I sense that he is indeed a bit grumpy.

Cats have very expressive bodies. I suspect he has the aches and pains of age...he's been much more intolerant of late.

He's always been a cutie with a solid dash of "serve me, peons!"
