Another interesting story of a Cooper's hawk that was chasing a pigeon in New York City before it entered a subway station and he realized that he could not get out of the subway station due to the noise of the subways inside the station scaring the hawk from leaving. The hawk took up residence on a perch on a pipe at the Westchester Square-East Tremont Avenue station when station agent Paul Flores saw that the hawk needed some help to leave the subway station and return to the outdoors. Paul was able to find help to free the hawk when Bobby Horvath who was a former firefighter who is now a volunteer at Wildlife In Need used a 18 foot net on Wednesday evening. The hawk was released into the wild on Thursday afternoon at Pelham Bay Park by a member of the volunteer group after the hawk had been examined by veterinarians who mentioned that the hawk was healthy enough to fly free into his home after spending a few days and nights at a subway station.

I agree with you since I did not know that hawks did not like being indoors where there is a lot of noise like a subway station.

@RubyHawk They would not like be inside of a subway area like some of us are scared of enclosed places.

@Deepizzaguy I don’t believe any wild animal or bird would want to be in a subway or inside any building.

I see these Cooper's hawks often in the backyard. So happy he was rescued and back into the wild.

I agree with you since hawks like to be outdoors and not inside a noisy building like a subway station.

This is a great story. Thank you for sharing it. I have a special affinity for hawks. We have a breeding pair of hawks who live in our woods. This year, they successfully raised 3 young.

I agree with you since a hawk that is in his element is a happy hawk.

Glad it has a happy ending. I am guessing the New York subway is like the Underground and more than a few pigeons live there, happily.

That would probably have been a bit hard to catch the hawk in a net. I'm sure the hawk is glad to be free again.
