Sotong the Otter

At the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington an Asian small-clawed otter pup was born on December 9, 2021. She has been given the name Sotong in Malay meaning squid or octopus. Her happy parents are Little Frei and Conner for whom this is a first baby. The parents were paired by the Asian Small-Claw Otter Species Survival Plan a cooperative breeding program. Just recently Sotong received her first vaccinations.
Presently she is in an off-display den being taken care of by her parents. She has begun her swimming lessons in a plastic tub and will later graduate to swim in the pool. Sotong has at least 12 different vocalizations which is a sign that she is bonding well with her parents. The pup is still nursing but also taking in some solid food like fish.

@JudyEv they certainly do and try their way at getting her to swim but the zoo keepers are always around

She is adorable! My sister is in love with otters and seeing their pictures and videos of them I can see why.
