She's a Hoarder!!!!

MrsJ didn’t manage to get a post written yesterday and it does not look like she will succeed today so it falls to me to make sure her account here stays active. I have to tell you all, she has a problem. A SERIOUS problem. On Tuesday morning she decided it was time to clean up and organizer her sewing space. It looks pretty good right now…but for most of the past few days it has looked suspiciously like there was an explosion down there and for the last hour or so she has just been stuffing things into plastic storage boxes and shutting lids. It may look better…but think she is leaving a job very much unfinished. You are probably thinking that her disorganization and general messiness are the problem…but it’s worse. She is a HOARDER!!!!! She wants everybody to think her hobbies are quilting and costuming for the local community theatre. But no, those pastimes mask her real problem and give a little bit of plausible deniability. The reality is that she is addicted to fabric and has a ridiculous amount of it. Big pieces, little pieces, bright colours, black and white. You name it, she probably has it. I need to be careful down there or I am going to disappear into a bin of scraps and never be seen again. Don’t let the photo fool you, that’s just a tiny bit of what she was playing with this morning! --Emmett

I know that you may think that Mrs J is a hoarder, but I wasn't under that same impression. She just has alot of stuff. At least it is piled neat and orderly.

@SophiaMorros My mother was a sewer, out of necessity she made her own and my clothing, and when we were small she once took a winter coat of hers and made up 3 little navy coats for my brothers. They looked so sharp. She got into quilting in her late 40's and was much better at keeping things tidy when that hobby rolled around, otherwise, her sewing room was a mess of pins-you never ventured into that room barefoot as you were sure to step on a pin hiding in the carpeting, stashes of new and possible could still be used pieces of fabric, spools of thread everywhere not to mention button boxes and ribbon/rickrack on every ledge imageable.

@Juliaacv Thankfully we have a laminate floor in the sewing area. Pins in carpet are brutal!

Some of it is neat and orderly...some of it just got stuffed back into plastic shoe-boxes to be dealt with another day. Another day in the distant future!

I have a trunk full of material and a storage box full. I could make dresses, shirts or quilts tho I doubt I ever will.

@SophiaMorros I might never use mine but I have it waiting if I have the urge.

I suspect the stash that MrsJ is sitting on would probably fill 7-8 trunks. She says she intends to use it all...but she's gonna need to get busy to do that!

It’s probably just your tiny size making everything look like so much more. I won’t tell her what you said it will probably upset her like when my husband calls me a hoarder but he’s the one online shopping and buying things daily.

You might be right...but the whole process of cutting fabric up into smaller pieces to sew them back together into bigger pieces just strikes me as being a little silly!

To each their own. And, you don't have to post daily (or often) to keep your account active. Unless the goal is to make money.

MrsJ knows she doesn't have to post daily...but she also knows that the more days she skips the harder it is to come back. Fortunately, she has little Lego me to help out.

You have thought of it yourself, Emmett, but I was going to say to be very careful not to get swallowed up in all the material. This must be nearly discussion No. 21. It's lucky she had your help to reach her goal.

I think this was discussion #24...and she completely missed Saturday. If I hadn't stepped up to write for her she would have missed two days in a row! (She can be totally irresponsible!!).

My hobbies are travelling, freeloading, and pointing out MrsJ's foibles. Which do you think is the cool one?
