Yes, my husband and I ventured out into the world and took a week long vacation in Cayo Coco, Cuba.
Though it was quite windy, it was nice in a way that we couldn't feel the heat as much. And I didn't feel any of my fibromyalgia or athritis pain while away. It was like I was a different person. Only thing is I missed my weighted blanket. I didn't sleep too well. I had major pre-travel anxiety both going and returning. So very little sleep during those time periods. Meaning I slept well the first couple of nights and since I have returned home.
We returned Sunday and I woke up yesterday with shoulder pain and today pain all over.
We went to this new location because Santa Maria is a 2 hour bus ride from the airport. The resort, though, was the same chain we stayed at in S.M. The staff are so friendly and awesome. But Cuba doesn't get a whole lot of spices and stuff. Couldn't even get butter for the first few days until they got a delivery of ice, tea, butter, etc. I was struggling without my morning cup of tea so our regular server ended out bringing me some tea bags from home. I also found an old one in the bottom of my travel purse.
The prices of these cheap travel all-inclusive vacations have risen a bit due to their losses during covid. We decided not to do any excursions and just relax. We did spend a few dollars on an hour long horse ride on the beach which was awesome. I love it when they let us make the horses run.
We went for long walks on the beach. One day I set my Apple watch for the walk and there and back was 4.35kms. Part of it was wading through water because of lack of beach at some spots. This did cause some pain in my knee and hip but it disappeared as soon as I got off my feet.
Covid protocols included showing proof of vaccine before leaving Canada. Wearing a mask at all times in the airports, on any transport vehicles and in any indoor places like the restaurants and the covid testing line. We had to have a PCR test before leaving to return home. So much paper work including the health questionnaires. As of today we no longer need to take the PCR test before returning to Canada. If they lift mask restrictions, which I understand they are, I will continue to wear a mask.
Anyway, it was wonderful to leave the day after a big snowstorm, but not wonderful to return to one.
I wish I could live in a tropical location permanently.

Nice to know that you have enjoyed your vacation. Because of covid, we have limited our travel but I love to travel places.

I was hesitant but after two years I couldn't take it anymore. The tropical air is so healthy for me. Some people were skeptical but my daughter who works at the airport is 28 and has been travelling again for a while now. Her words were "You can't stop living". I needed some time away from my physical pain.

@ExplorewtMe We had just begun travelling. Cuba in December 2018. Cuba in December 2019. Cancun in February/March 2020. Then the world shut down and we haven't been able to travel. I suppose we could travel within the country but we have to wait for warmer weather. I don't do snow.

I can't wait until someday when the US and Cuba normalize relations again and allow travel back and forth freely. I'm sure there are some amazingly beautiful places in Cuba. We have a very large Cuban population here in Florida, and they are the most kind, generous people. It's too bad our governments can't get along.
Glad you had a good time. I'm sure it was a much-needed vacation. A little Vitamin Sea always does the trick!

@moffittjc The tourists suffer too depending on where you go. The food is so bland... and cold. The country relies heavily on tourism. They need to make it better.

@patgalca It's really horrible that the people have to suffer at their government's expense. They really are wonderful people.

I just don't like the travelling and the anxiety about it. It's hard to struggle along on very little sleep. I actually had a breakdown in the lobby that first day because I lost my husband. He went for a walk on the beach and was gone forever. I got fed up waiting because I was so hungry. Hadn't eaten since the day before so I went to lunch. We couldn't check into our room until after 4pm (we arrived at 11am). I was not a fan of that.

Well... Because of my husband's new schedule, we haven't spent a whole lot of time together over the last year or so. Spending a whole week with him I learned that his memory is worse than I thought. Every night he asked me what time dinner was. I'm a little concerned to say the least.

@CarolDM Getting him to see a doctor is too difficult. He thinks there is nothing wrong with him. Even on this trip he burned his chest, it peeled, then he burned the skin underneath. He is skin cancer waiting to happen. His brother had skin cancer so he should really be more careful. He loves being tanned.

Hubby looks a little radio-active in that pic.

You don't even know! He wore sunscreen one day. He felt it was oily and probably burning him. He burned, then he peeled, then he burned that raw skin underneath. On the last night he had a cold wet towel on his chest. He is a sun worshiper and could pay for it one day.

Glad you could do it. I'm not going anywhere, and will continue to wear my mask when out in public.

Well, if you can take a vacation to one, perhaps you can find a way to move to one sometime in the future.

My husband wants to move back to his hometown when he retires. It is on the east coast of Canada so the air is salty but it's either hot and humid or cold and damp. I've kept track of symptoms in all places I go. I don't see much improvement when I'm there unfortunately. I don't want to move there at all. Would rather move to Hawaii (except it is so far away).

I'd love to live in a tropical region, where the air is fresh, clean and not humid. I'm glad you had a nice time and the picture is amazing!

When we first arrived and stepped off the plane we were hit with a blast of humidity. But near the water it was very breezy so we couldn't feel any humidity. I think the safest place to be during this time is outside on a beach where there aren't a ton of people.

@patgalca Yes, there's little threat of catching COVID, out in the wideopen space.
