World War III May Have Started

Old war map of Europe

I will just point out a small incident during World War II. The allies had put a trade embargo on Japan in 1941 when they were left with only I think 10 or 15 days of petrol. In those circumstances, the Japanese took the decision to attack Pearl Harbor. Even now the western powers are committing a great mistake by putting all sorts of sanctions on Russia. These will be counterproductive because Russia is a nuclear power and if you catch a tiger by the tail then you know what happens. A simple guarantee by the USA that Ukraine will not be made part of NATO will solve the problem because in any case, NATO has no raison d'etre to continue after the Soviet Union collapsed. The repercussions are terrible and it should not be forgotten that in the 20th century the last two world wars the epicenter was Europe. it looks the same way now and I feel very sorry when I have to say that World War III may be on the counter now because of the foolishness of the Ukrainian president in becoming a puppet in the hands of the Americans and the British. It's all very well to keep cheering Ukraine but the people who will suffer are the Ukrainians and sadly Ukraine will be destroyed. Whether they win the war or lose is immaterial. If there is a nuclear exchange the smaller European countries will cease to exist. I am reminded of a statement made by Nikita Khruschev the Soviet leader in 1961 when he said it requires only five H-bombs to obliterate England from the world map. I think the American president has to reach out to Putin and pour water over the flames and forget about confrontation. Unfortunately, Europe has got a penchant for war and I'm not too sure that diplomacy will work. it looks like a one-way road to hell but I still hope that Joe Biden will put ego aside and make the move to defuse the tension.

I think they already tried diplomacy. There was a lot of talking back and forth - all to no avail. By the way, even Russian citizens are not happy with their president. Hundreds of them were arrested and jailed during demonstrations against his actions. When you get right down to it- leaders swagger, puff out their chests and make right or wrong decisions, and it is the people who suffer. Those demonstrating Russians are also thinking of their family members (soldiers) battling it out in the Ukraine, wondering if they will ever see them again.

@madan02 I remember that slogan from television commercials on the former Southern Command Network (SCN) television in Panama using that slogan.

We are already noticing the increase in prices caused by the sanctions to Russia and this is only the beginning. The European Community pays to Russia 800 Millions dollars every day to have gas and oil. With the sanctions imposed, Russia already increased the prices by 30%. Europe is divided (as usual) on what to do. Wait until we get some more serious problems and we will be even more divided.

I don't understand why they keep cornering him with the risk of nukes at hand. They fuel the flames but wont send troops, the first one they shouldnt have done. Good thing you pointed out that embargo. I heard in the news how shipments of food to Russia were halted and it terrifies me. Prayers for the Ukranians, it is the ordinary people who suffer. And also the ordinary Russians who are people too and suffering.

Everybody is suffering but Biden looks to be the villiam.

Mutually assured destruction will hopefully be enough to deter any nuclear threats from Russia. Many countries have been at war with the option to use those weapons and they haven't. I pray that this whole conflict will cease before anything so drastic is even considered. My heart aches for all of the lives being lost for the egos of politicians.

In this case MAD may not help because bigger countries like Russia and USA will survive but small countries like UK Belgian Hungary etc will be wiped out.
