So…..how many of you had this on the list of songs that have “money” in the title? I know @Xander6464 did because I mentioned it at the meeting the other day, but other than that. For today’s dining and dancing pleasure I present one of the greats in rock and roll. #4: Blue Money - Van Morrison [A quick note for Americans: there’s a line about “light up a f*g.” In British vernacular, that’s a cigarette. In fact, it used to be a common slang term for a cigarette in America (I remember my mother saying “take a drag off a f*g” when I was young). In this context, it does not have any negative connotations toward another human being.] Van the Man! If we hear anything from him anymore, it’s “Moondance” or “Brown Eyed Girl.” Hey, I love both. The Moondance album is one I’d pack for that mythical deserted island. But there is so much more in this man’s catalog. Like this. Oh, this was played a lot back in the good ol’ days of FM rock before it became the same 212 songs by the same 46 artists. I was listening to a couple of Morrison albums while cleaning the pantry a couple of months ago. I’ve never considered him an “all-time favorite,” but he’s a very comfortable pair of jeans to put on and enjoy every now and then. And I did, and I do. I can listen to “Into the Mystic” four or five times in a row. What a gorgeous song. As I said, I never thought of him as a “favorite” but now I find myself putting on his music and enjoying it every now and then.

Our son played bass for Van Morrison in Ireland once. I think a group were cobbled together maybe for a TV or radio performance.
