You always read and hear that you're not supposed to resign if you don't have another job yet to transfer to. But the reality is, sometimes you just have to quit ASAP, regardless, and for many different reasons - health, safety, family situation, etc. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. The point is, it's not an unbreakable commandment and one shouldn't be judged by it. There are probably more people who have gaps in their resumes than those who had one job after another without break until retirement. Or maybe they only worked for one company their whole life.
