An Open Letter to Baseball

(As if I actually believe there are any baseball players here on myLot. Still, this is a forum for getting frustrations out, so why not.) Dear Putzes, Yeah, putzes. Who are you fooling? Y’all survived the pandemic just fine, while most of America (as in, the people who pay for your product) needed help to make ends meet. Back in November, a few days before the lockout, Max Scherzer got a contract that will pay him, on average, $13,000 per pitch. Then, on December 3, the owners magically got poor and couldn’t afford the “outlandish demands” of the players? Who are you fooling. Your money doesn’t just fall from the sky. You get your money from people like me. People who are shocked to watch the gasoline prices increasing daily in terms of quarters, not pennies. That’s going to make paying $50 per ticket for a baseball game more difficult. People who are more worried about world events than in whether or not you make the bases 0.0000023 centimeters bigger. People who are worried about supply shortages more than how much you have to pay someone who can’t play anymore because you were dumb enough to sign him to a ridiculous contract. I mean, Ken Griffey Jr. was put in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 but, thanks to his contract, is still being paid as a player by the Cincinnati Reds. That’s not my fault, that’s your fault. I canceled my MLB subscription. You don’t need my $125. Or, if you do, you aren’t getting it. I’ll spend that money on a trip to a natural wonder, where I don’t have to worry about it going on strike every three years. Angrily yours, A baseball fan from the 1960s until 2021 A bonus “money” song that explains the baseball situation in a nutshell:

I have never followed any sports. Will not while they are being paid more to have fun than what our military is being paid for risking their lives.

You got no complaints from me I was never a baseball fan except a short while when the Mets won the World Series and I worked in downtown NYC and went to the crazy crowded ticker-tape parade,

A friend of mine went to a Cubs game in Wrigley Field (his wife’s family is from Chicago). The tickets for him, his wife, and their 12-year-old son were over three hundred dollars with taxes and fees. And they want MORE?????

I think they picked the wrong time in human history to expect much sympathy. Not that “good times” would generate much to begin with.

I gave up on all professional and men's college sports years ago. The pros are a bunch of bio-engineered moronic whiners and the major sports college kids are getting there. Pro sports add no value to our lives and waste our time and money.

I agree. Now that college kids can get sponsors it’ll be awful. No wonder Coach K and Roy Williams are retiring now.

Some of these sporting stars sure get a heap of money. Are you going to send your letter?

You tell 'em, baby! I don't care for baseball; and most sports figures are overpaid as it is.
