I didn't work on Tuesday because I had the tree people come take down the dead tree in the back and... what did he call it?... "crowning" one of the ones in the front. Maybe some people remember that last year Texas had over 100 hours of below freezing, 144 in Austin. My house was built in 1970, and the 3 Arizona ash trees were planted then, also the live oak in the front/side yard. So, the remaining ash in the backyard, who was already past the 50 years they can be expected to live, bit the bullet, kicked the can, bought the farm, died. The ash in the front took a hit too, but it didn't kill it outright. So, this year I called for an estimate from a tree company about taking down the one in back, trimming the one in front and take the limbs on the roof off from the live oak. I wasn't real thrilled with the price and was going to check with a couple of other companies. However, the tree guy called and said that the big job they had for the next week (now last week) postponed, and he knocked nearly $1000 off if he could get his guys out to do it the next week. All there is of the back tree is the stump and sawdust. The front ash still has most of its main branches, but all the dead ends are gone. And the oak has been trimmed back from the roof. I didn't do any cleaning inside because I didn't want to get caught doing stuff if they needed me.

It was expensive, but not as expensive as it would be to fix the house or replace stuff in the shed.

I am happy to hear you managed to get the issue resolved. I know that you might not have liked paying for it, but you couldn't just leave it, either.

Yeah, I knew I had left it for about as long as I dared. Happily I did manage to have enough money - just...

Removing trees can be really expensive. I've had a couple cut down and others trimmed and it's not cheap to do it right. Even then, it almost seems like they deliberately don't trim the branches thoroughly so they can come back in a few years and charge you again. That's been my experience anyway. Sounds like you got a good deal! Sometimes it's all in the timing isn't it.

You better not clean because it will get messy again once the tree guy cuts those trees in a few days.

Oh, the tree guys were here last Tuesday and they left the yard better than when they got here.
