While waiting in line at one of my favorite stores, family dollar, a lady starts talking to me. She was a nice lady and a good personality. But she suddenly goes I should put these in my purse. I see her unzipping her purse and making a move , but I look the other way. I am not a witness. Now what should I do?!?! Tell the lady who works there or tell her you better pay for that. If she proceeds that's on her. She said I hope that alarm doesn't go off. If people do what they do, please Don't tell me!!! I don't want to get in the middle!! Keep these things to yourself!!!

Exactly! Why involve you, for all she knew, you could be an undercover store detective. Stores do employ detectives to catch shoplifters. I worked retail, so I know about it. I wouldn't have acknowledged her, and walk away and keep away from her & myob, too. It's a dollar store, so things inexpensive already.

Agreed. But, it was so unexpected, so you did fine. Others unpredictable, too. Who knows what she really did.

This is certainly an unpleasant position to be put in.
A lot of people today do not think of the Bible as a source of guidance, but here's an example of how reasoning on the principles found in it can help us come to a good decision.
For example, the principle Jesus mentions 'Do to others what you would have them do to you' - if you were the merchant of the store being victimized, wouldn't you want someone who witnessed it to speak up to either discourage them from stealing or promptly reporting the matter so that the appropriate officials could deal with it?
In ancient Israel, the Mosaic law mentioned one's legal responsibility to speak up if they witnessed wrongdoing.
There are other accounts that reveal the negative consequences of what is referred to as 'community responsibility'
As the saying goes, 'all that evil needs to thrive is that good people do nothing.'
