I'm Sure Ketanji Brown Jackson's Approval will be Speedy & Unanimous, but I Worry ...

... that people will always think of her as a "token" Justice. And it started with President Biden's racist announcement ... I recall, he said he promised to nominate "an African-American woman to fill the seat." not 'the most-qualified judge in the country' (tho she certainly is "most-qualified," Biden didn't promise 'most-qualified'). Maybe her approval hearing should be made a little difficult, so people don't think of her as a "diversity hire." https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/03/21/55-things-you-need-to-know-about-ketanji-brown-jackson-00018514 Thoughts?

Yes introducing someone on those terms does not inspire confidence in her.

That's why there are a lot of sites promoting her many-MANY qualifications!

@mythociate Yes I see she is well qualified. She is a judge..no one likes judges. But I love this Judge Judge Dred

Absurd of Biden to say he would put "an African-American woman to fill the seat." I would be insulted if I were the candidate. He should appoint the most qualified. Of course this is a diversity hire.

Maybe in-part; but at least it's not like the coach-hiring in the NFL, where the Black comes in for a 'diversity'-interview

@mythociate It is discrimination. And absurd that he chose these words. This is a lifetime position for goodness sakes.

If the Republicans make an issue of her qualifications, I hope the Dems will remind them of the two grossly unqualified Justices McConnell rushed through. Jackson's experience and qualifications dwarf those of anyone Trump put on the Court.

I am torn on the issue. I don't like that he specifically considered only African-American women but by the same token the Supreme Court should reflect the diversity of our population. She definitely is highly qualified and she just had confirmation hearings last year. It will be interesting to see how many Republicans are hypocrites and vote no after they voted yes to confirm her before.
