Writing for CBR is Hard!

Well, sort of. For those who don't know, recently I got hired as a writer for the entertainment site CBR. If you're familiar with Screenrant at all, it's basically a branch of the same company. Sounds fun in theory, right? I get to write about tv and film and actually get paid for it! I was doing that for Medium for very little money, but it was still fun. It's still kind of fun with CBR but man, there's so many RULES. There's so much formatting you have to worry about, and rules for images and links, etc etc etc. It takes the fun away from just writing. On top of that, everyone has to write like you're writing a serious news periodical or something. You don't get to put your own unique voice into anything, which makes it a little dull for me. I have a very conversational tone when I write and it's so hard to turn that off! Idk. I've only been at it for about two weeks now so maybe as I do more I'll get into a better flow of things. I will say it felt super good to log into my first published article stats, which was just a comparison piece between reality and fiction of an old show, to see it had around 2700 views already. Certainly an ego boost there. I'm still learning the ins and outs but hopefully once I settle into a regular routine this'll all be old hat for me. We'll see how it goes!

I hope it gets easier for you as you get more used to it. But congratulations on getting hired to write for them.

@akruser13 Good luck with it. Two jobs would have to be better than 3!

Thanks! I'm sure it'll be okay once I start to get all the patterns down. I wrote one yesterday and was a little faster on ticking off all the formatting boxes. If I can figure out my timing and flow I should be able to do just this and my dog training without shoving a third job in there. That's my aim anyway.

Some writing sites do have rigid rules. Good luck to you and hope that you'll be able to do more great writing in future.

I've gotten so used to free writing, but this is good practice. It'll look good on my resume too, this is a much bigger online periodical than I've written for before.

I wish you the best of luck on that. I can understand all the rules. Let's face it, it's supposed to be news-based. More fact-based. So , leaving personal opinion out is kind of what they want.

I don't mind not being able to share my opinions, I can leave that out. It's just so formal. I like sounding like I'm actually talking to an audience as opposed to just reporting to them, if that makes sense. It's okay though, I'll adapt. It's different than my normal style is all.
