Thanks to the employees who work for the South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) who answered an emergency call nearly two weeks ago when a 12 year old Chihuahua named Sasha who ran away for her owners who recently moved into the South Haven area in Michigan.
SHAES responder Matt Dey saw the female dog on the icy pond located behind a church in the area.
My feeling is that a church member saw the dog in the icy pond and called 911 to report the incident to the authorities.
Matt used his special rescue suit to go into the pond and save the dog who fell into the icy water due to the thin ice conditions and rescue the dog before she either drown or freeze to death in the icy conditions.
Matt returned the dog to her owners who are grateful to the rescuer for saving their dog.

I am sure that the chihuahua is okay since there were no reports of the dog feeling ill after the rescue from the frozen pond exposure.

I think that the dog will be okay since the time spent in the icy pond was brief.

The ice was very thin since like you said the weight of the chihuahua was strong enough to break the ice.
