I was watching a movie on Lifetime last night about sex trafficking and it brought back some memories. When I was in my early 20's I went off with the carnival. I had worked for the fair and carnival for several years and I loved it. The adventure and travel made me wonder what it would be like. I am such a curious person. I remember the call to say goodbye to my mom and her surprising remark to me that she envied me for having this adventure. Our first city was Blackfoot, Idaho and this is where I lost one of my waffle stompers(hiking boots) in the mud. I agonized because I had to go a couple of days with only one shoe until I could make some money and get another pair. I borrowed some but they didn't fit. We traveled through Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Saw my first cotton field. There was a terrible fight on the speedway in Jackson, Mississippi because some guy had stolen some stuff out of a joint. But, what happened in Albuquerque, New Mexico will remain a LIFE LESSON for all my life. The lot was huge. I worked in a nickel pitch where people would toss nickels and try to land on all kinds of glassware. At that time I was big on speed. I liked cross tops and black beauties. I was addicted while I was on the road and for a short while after I came back home. That feeling of exhilaration and the rush I don't feel at any time except on speed being depressed most of my life. Picture from Google
