The full Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences is meeting tomorrow morning to determine what disciplinary action Will Smith should face for assaulting presenter Chris Rock. He could lose his Best Actor Oscar or be suspended/expelled from the Academy. Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski were expelled after they were convicted of sexual assault and Harvey Weinstein was expelled for 'sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment'. Smith apologized to his fellow nominees and the guests at the ceremony while delivering his acceptance speech. He apologized to Chris Rock yesterday. The Academy issued a statement condemning his actions and announcing an emergency meeting tomorrow to review the situation. As I wrote yesterday I really don't have any big opinion on the incident. Chris Rock was doing his job as a comedian and delivered a joke, albeit on in poor taste considering Jada's medical condition is widely known. Will Smith reacted inappropriately, embarrassed himself, and eventually apologized. The Academy issued a statement about the situation. I don't see what further action needs to be taken. It would be a shame for Will Smith to lose his Oscar or be suspended/expelled from the institution. He didn't rape or sexually assault anyone. He just smacked someone in the face.
Disciplinary action for Will Smith, 53, following his onstage slap of Chris Rock could include anything from forcing him to hand back his Oscar to the most severe - suspension from the Academy.

That would be a shame. And I think a bit too harsh. He has already made a sincere apology. And Chris Rock made a really rude and insensitive joke. Seems like it was not his first time. He had already done it. I too don't have a strong opinion about the incident. But Will Smith is a very fine actor and loosing the award to such incident would be a big insult.

Will Smith may be sternly warned or give some penalty but taking away his award would be too harsh in my opinion.

He won’t be suspended. As you said, he didn’t sexually assault anyone. And if they take his Oscar away there’ll be a bunch of not-true-but-still-said “they only did that because he’s black” crap. I mean, I already saw that on Twit-er Sunday night.

I'm torn about this. Will Smith should have voiced his displeasure to Chris Rock AFTER the ceremony -- words not slaps. I don't know what disciplinary action, if any, should be taken.
