This countdown is about just the first 5 seasons of the show. I'm not considering episodes from the current season 6.
The 8th best episode of Outlander so far in my opinion is the 11th episode of the 5th season. It is called "Journeycake". When Claire went back through the stones to rejoin the love of her life Jamie her daughter made her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take for the trip. She wanted her mother to have something from home along the way.
This episode is when Brianna and Roger discover that their son can time-travel as they can and they plan to return back to the future and their time. Claire collects peanuts to make peanut butter so her grandson will experience "the future's answer to journeycake". (before they know he can travel) I assume journeycake is like hardtack or some long-lasting type of bread that people took along long travels. It is funny because the 18th century Highlander (Jamie) eats the sandwich with a knife and a fork and says that the peanut butter could be used to repair old shoes. Young Ian also learns the truth about Claire, Bree, and Roger's special ability.
This episode also sets things up for another one in this countdown. I've watched it several times.

A johnnycake or journeycake or hoecake is a fried cornbread pancake (as opposed to baking the cornbread). Good memories of childhood dinners.

I normally like historical fiction; but for some reason this does not appeal to me.
