Rolling through the stations on The Beast's Sirius XM radio the other day while waiting for a train to pass, I discovered the Canadian FrancoCountry Station. To say the least, I was intrigued.
The train passed. I left the radio tuned to the station. Imagine my surprise in discovering I enjoy listening to this different yet familiar genre of music. My French is incredibly rusty, though I am using Babble to try and recapture my knowledge of it. Still, I understand about every fifth word.
Some of the songs sound very much like the country music popular in the States when I was growing up. There is also a good bit that, as best I can describe it, sounds like French Hillbilly Bluegrass very old-school country. A few have similarities to what passes for country music in the US today, but those are few and far between.
So far, it has proven to be great music to listen to while writing as the lyrics don't distract me because I cannot follow them. They just flow past.
Have you ever discovered a genre of music you've never heard of before and been surprised by its appeal?

I took a French course at our local university to brush up on my high school French before our first trip to Paris. It certainly helped, but I am rusty.
Classical music is the only music I truly love and certain operas. Country is at the bottom of the list with rap for me.

@DWDavis That's a shame. Our younger son did a European trip when he was 16 with his private school, and our older son studied in Paris for his junior year. Both kids went to Europe before we ever got there. We just worried while they were away.

I am glad you are enjoying that and rekindling your French.
I took French in 8th grade and do remember a small amount.
Not lately, I had not listened to any different music.
I do love the trains passing though

I certainly have and I have also found one time that I really enjoyed easy kind of listening music in Italian, Didn't understand a word but the music sounded great,
