Rolling through the stations on The Beast's Sirius XM radio the other day while waiting for a train to pass, I discovered the Canadian FrancoCountry Station. To say the least, I was intrigued. The train passed. I left the radio tuned to the station. Imagine my surprise in discovering I enjoy listening to this different yet familiar genre of music. My French is incredibly rusty, though I am using Babble to try and recapture my knowledge of it. Still, I understand about every fifth word. Some of the songs sound very much like the country music popular in the States when I was growing up. There is also a good bit that, as best I can describe it, sounds like French Hillbilly Bluegrass very old-school country. A few have similarities to what passes for country music in the US today, but those are few and far between. So far, it has proven to be great music to listen to while writing as the lyrics don't distract me because I cannot follow them. They just flow past. Have you ever discovered a genre of music you've never heard of before and been surprised by its appeal?
