We’re watching the weather because a big-butt system is moving into the area. It might drown the flowers! That’s okay, I’ll just flood you with music. Here’s a song @TheHorse had pegged to appear on this list of favorites with “flower” in the title.
#3: Dead Flowers - Rolling Stones
Whodathunkit, the Stones go country! Well, just about as “country” as they could. You may not know this, but Keith Richards had a friendship (and a drug habit) with country rock pioneer Gram Parsons. (Keith survived his, Gram died at 26.
) It is pretty obvious on the classic song “Wild Horses.” And, of course, there’s also “Far Away Eyes“ on Some Girls.
So if you’re down on your luck….oops, wrong song.
this is just another Stones song with some dang snarky lyrics as the rich girl leaves the poor boy to his drug habit (“I’ll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon”), while he accepts her offer of dead flowers with the take-it-any-way-you’d-like promise that he “won’t forget to put roses on your grave.”
That album with the wild LP cover also has some pretty good music on the inside!
Dead Flowers
Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Recorded by The Rolling Stones
From Sticky Fingers, 1971

Who would have thought that I’d pick your favorite Stones song? (And is the check in the mail?

A song sung by the Rolling Stones that I have never heard of before or at least a song that gets a lot of air time on the radio.

It didn’t get a lot of airplay; or, at least, it hasn’t in the past 40 years or so. I’ve never owned Sticky Fingers but I know this song, so it probably did get played on FM radio back in the 70s. (One of the benefits of being old.

@FourWalls I know of some of the Stones hits like "Brown Sugar" and "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" and a few others.
