I have been reading a lot about this National Poetry Month lately, as it's in April. It was introduced by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. I think it's a good opportunity to introduce some suitable poems to my children, or myself. I always take the opportunity of these "special days" to introduce something new to my children or revise some topics we have learned.
I am not a person who enjoys poems since I was young. I liked to read short stories or novels, but I never like to read poems. In fact, I didn't understand a poem or why we should read poems. I read more about poetry when I am homeschooling my children. Though I am still not in love with poetry, at least I can feel the joy and find the inspiration while reading a poem, sometimes. I am still finding ways to introduce poetry to my children. Hope they will enjoy poetry.
Do you like poetry? Do you have any favorite poets?
Picture was taken by me - I crocheted these two little bunnies for my daughter to welcome Coco and Kiki (our house rabbits) to our home.

I've got a book of poetry published when I was 18. I can write it and people seem to enjoy it but I'd rather not read poems written by other people.
Those bunnies are really cute!

@kaka135 It was always on a bookshelf at home. I don't know if she ever read it or not. Neither one of us are really interested in reading poetry written by someone else.
I always read her stories at bed time.

@DaddyEvil So both of you just read the poems written by yourself or herself? (I though you would at least "force" her to read or listen to your poems.
)
I miss bed time stories.... I used to read to my children before my youngest was a toddler. He didn't enjoy bedtime stories and always made noise, though my elder children enjoyed them very much. Now I am lazy to prepare the stories too... I should really resume the bedtime story session.
We have bedtime "talking session". It seems like all of us like to talk.

Do you mean those poems from Tang dynasty (tang si)? I read some of them when I was young, and I enjoy the rhyming. I always find many of them are sad.... I just introduced some to my children, but not many. Perhaps I should really study more.

@youless I didn't read many poems, but I always remember the two poems by "Wen Tian Xiang". I just fell in love with them when I first read them. They are just great! As you said, perhaps they had gone through those struggles or difficult situations, then only they were able to write poems that inspire others so deeply.

Perhaps the poets at that time felt sad and therefore what they wrote down could be so touching.
