I made a shrimp gumbo for hubby today.
I do not particularly like it, and it looks ugly to me, but he liked it so much the last time, I did it again.
This is what we ate for supper tonight. I did eat a serving, and some really good toast.
Now it is time to dish the rest of it up in portions for hubby to enjoy for lunches.
Shoot, if he likes he can have it for breakfast.
From what I read, okra is what makes it gumbo.
Okra grows well here in Kansas, but I bought mine out of a freezer case.

We just had french toast and eggs. I have a surplus of eggs right now.

Luckly you. Even at Aldi eggs were almost $3 a dozen last week. Darn bird flu.

@GardenGerty There is no reason for it really. Most of those eggs the chickens would not get it as they are never outside anyways. When I do need eggs I buy from the Amish

I like okra but only fried. I love shrimp but not in gumbo. I had some of the home made chicken soup I made. I also made up northern beans in the crock pot with onion, brown sugar, pepper, salt and ham. It's divided in the freezer and refrigerator. Good hot meals for the cold rainy days we've been having.

We just finished baked beans made with Great Northerns. Similar to yours with also some molasses, ground mustard, and sausages in it.

No, it is the okra. Love the shrimp. I am ready for things like tuna salad.

@GardenGerty Yeah, gumbo is great in the winter. I'm not much on hot food like gumbo in the summer either.

Oh we had a delicious and healthy meal last night. I don't like okra at all. They are abundant here as well.

I enjoy it more fried. We are having warmer weather and I do not want any kind of soup.

@GardenGerty I find okra too slimy. We had salad with cucumber and tomatoes and lettuce. Perfect for the summer season here.

I love okra too Heather..I am not crazy about shrimp unless its the tiny ones. Prawns.
