Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, "Daniel" was released in 1973. Bernie Taupin read an article about a Vietnam vet who had been wounded and wanted to avoid attention when he came back home: "Oh, oh Daniel my brother you are older than me, Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal."
"Daniel" scored the #1 and #2 spots on the US charts and was also certified Platinum.

Excellent tune. Elton's record company did not want to release this song as a single. Elton insisted they do. Guess we found out who knew best
