Even a bad impersonator

In my other discussion about tribute bands I noticed several comments about even BAD tribute acts being good or entertaining. I can vouch for that. Every year the small town I live in hosts a huge parade - and sometimes there's an Elvis impersonator and his float as an entry. Usually impersonators strive to look/act/sound as much like their original as possible. However THIS guy has a bad wig, a cheap costume and doesn't even sound much like Elvis. Sometimes on his float he will be singing karaoke versions of songs which aren't even Elvis songs. His float displays his contact info and the fact that he is available to perform at parties and functions and I thought even though this guy isn't very good at what he's trying to do - he would still be really entertaining I'm sure lol! I just wasn't sure if HE thought he was being a really good Elvis impersonator or if he KNEW he wasn't and was trying to be cheesy Photo: Pixabay

I’ve seen a few that knew they were bad impersonators, but we’re very good at being bad. And apparently they were doing pretty well for themselves despite how awful they were. It’s like you said, the entertainment value on those bad impersonators is what makes them desirable.

@FayeHazel Wasn't there some Asian guy many, many years ago that went on American Idol and was so bad that he became a huge national sensation?

Ha ha, in a way I wonder if that's not even more difficult, - to be so bad that you;re actually still really entertaining

I have never been to a tribute event, but I always feel that I would be determined to enjoy the event. A night out is a night out!

@FayeHazel I still regret not attending their free concert in Hyde Park, way back in 1977. I was living only ten miles away at the time!

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? There you will find tons of Elvis impersonators. Some are really good but most are just silly. Strange thing, I even saw a black one there once and couldn't get enough of his act. If he had been caucasian, he would have been perfect. He sounded like Elvis and even looked like Elvis would have looked black. Everything.

It's funny how sometimes we remember the bad ones more than the good ones . I immediately thought of Elvis too - there seems to be a lot of them (the cheesy kind ).

I'd be wondering that too. It's not something you can really ask someone, is it?
