The British passenger liner, the RMS Titanic, sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912. There were 1,500 passengers who died and 705 survived. In 1997 a movie about the catastrophe was made and directed by John Cameron. Stars included Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kathy Bates. Titanic was made for $200 million and brought in $2 billion at the box office. Fast forward to 2009 and there is one last survivor of this ship disaster living in a nursing home in Britain. Her name is Millvina Dean and she is 97 years old. (Her father had perished after saving the then two-month-old, and his wife and son. Her mother returned to Britain soon after.) Millvina had been reduced to auctioning off her personal belongings to cover her care costs of nearly $3,000 a month. A friend of Millvina, the Irish author Don Mullan, said that he laid down a challenge to the trio in support Mullvina Fund and stars Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and director John Cameron rose to the occasion. They reported contributing what amounted to $22,000 in British pounds.

Nursing homes are too expensive. It’s completely unaffordable. I saw the movie years ago.

I did too. I think it was nice of them to do this. Then I found that they were sort of coerced into it.

@RubyHawk .........She would have been on the street. I don't think that the amount has anything to do with it. It was just nice of them.

@celticeagle I was nice of them to donate the money. That amount probably didn’t mean a thing to them but if they hadn’t donated the money what would have happened to her?

$22,000 is all that these millionaires could come up with??? That doesn't even get her through a year.

It was what was needed. I think it was nice of them to do that. That amount would probably see her through five or six years.
