I guess this is normal...

When I was young, I was extremely adventurous. I'd go out with friends middle of the night and would come home wee hours in the morning. We'd go on vacation for several days, race cars, go hiking, swimming, etc. When I became a mother, I can't imagine my son having a vacation somewhere only with his friends without me or his dad. I worry too much. Every time he's out of my sight, I seem to think what he's doing or if he's safe. The only time I did allow him to go far away was when they had a school tour. I just prayed hard the airplane would land safely. Due to the pandemic their senior high school tour to Singapore was cancelled. If not, I would have gone with him there.

It was the same way with me. I was wild and crazy and stayed out all night and would disappear from my family for days. Just like you, I now worry about my kids even when they’re gone for an hour. I’m sure our parents felt the same way when they were dealing with you and I.

My parents weren't alive to witness my teenage years.

@moffittjc My siblings and I took care of each other. We were trained young by your parents to take care of our business. That's why on weekends and on school vacation, we all had to work.

@toniganzon I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you were still well cared for by other family members. I know my parents worked a lot to try and provide a better life for me and my brother, so sometimes I feel like I was raised more by my grandmother than I was by my mom and dad.

My parents were like you and I NEVER enjoyed going out with friends and staying out late in the night, they worried that something bad could happen to me. Let him enjoy life until he is young, he will regret later.

Oh so sorry. I do allow Craig to sleep at a friend"s house and I let him party night as long as I know who he's with and where they're staying. I would make some phone calls though but he doesn't mind as I would just do it once. Yesterday afternoon his friend picked him up to attend the twins birthday party. They came home at 10pm.

@LadyDuck Exactly. That's why I don't want to deprive my son of that. That's why I do allow him to enjoy his teenage life as much as he can like I did. As long as I am aware where he is and who he's with I am fine with that. Craig always asks our permission and I really appreciate that.

@toniganzon - I know that I regret not being able to enjoy my teenage years as many girls did. Once you get married life is no more the same, there are responsibilities, we are busy all the time. Life not lived is lost forever.

Times have changed this day there are more crimes out there than when we were many decades ago. I think your concern is understandable.

I am not concerned of any crimes as I live in the most livable city in this country. Vehicular accidents is what I'm more concerned of or accidents like drowning. Crime's the least of my concern.

@toniganzon Oh if that is your concern, I guess accidents happen anywhere whether you are tucked in the safety of your home or out there. It could have happened to you when you were young or when you are right now. That is why I consider crime riskier for my kid since we could not really protect them when it happens. Where if they stay at home, they can stay safer than them being out there.

@rsa101 I think you still don't get it. Accidents at home when I am present can be taken care of immediately. He's into cycling as I've written too many times. With that in mind, I have more worries of him getting into an accident.

It is normal for parents to worry about their children. Perfectly normal Toni.
