Those Were The Days

I could take a quart of milk out of the fridge on the porch. Then go into my grandmother's kitchen, put a dipping spoon into the quart of milk to cover the neck, and pour off the cream into a bowl. I would whip it well for several minutes with the old egg beater. Then when the cream was fluffed just right I would add sugar and vanilla. So good to sit there and eat it freshly made. I haven't had fresh-made whipped cream for many years. It's time for grandma's strawberry cake. How long has it been since you had homemade whipped cream?

Last Saturday. I made a strawberry shortcake. 4 layers of pound cake with a layer of strawberries and whipping cream on each layer and on top. I like to keep heavy whipping cream on hand. I'll make some for cocoa or a flavored coffee. It's really good if you add Bailey's Irish Cream to the whipping cream

@celticeagle My father-in-law was President of Engineering for General Mills for 20 years. Every Christmas, we get a package from General Mills with snacks, sides, cake mixes, frostings, cookies and sometimes a cookbook. General Mills still sends all of his kids the Christmas package even though my father-in-law passed away 35 years ago. The pound cake was in the package this Christmas.

Believe it or not, never. I'd have those canisters you push the top of, for the whip cream & now tubs of Cool Whip.

You will never know how good the real thing is then. Unless you make some for yourself of course.

Probably 60 years. I remember one time my mother whipped hers too long and made butter.

Getting too vigorous can cause that to happen.
