Did it change you?

Roadrunner

The picture is a roadrunner. My dad spotted him outside his back door, and took a picture of it.To me, it's funny he cares. His wife (his first wife, my mom, died 7 years ago) can name almost any bird by sight, as well as plants. In the past, my dad couldn't care less. But, by her being interested in nature, HE became interested in nature. He'll spot a squirrel doing something funny, and call her over to look. He sees her favorite bird, and he lets her know. She planted a blackberry bush and he gathers them up for her; it's cute. Did that happen in your marriage? If you're single, did you ever take interest in something your significant other was into? Did they do the same?

That's so sweet. When you enjoy your partner's company, you try to adapt to their "hobbies" so you can spend as much time as possible together. At least that's how I experience it. Both parties learn and grow from this constant "adaptation". Lately I'd say it's my significant other the one who's adapting the most, between the two, but I did my work too.

My late husband and I were soul mates so we had a lot in common and we both loved nature and animals, I still remember going out in the suburbs where we lived in Latvia after rain and picking up smails off the roadway and placing them in grass so no one would step on them and squish them,

When I met K, she was into showing dogs in obedience. I became involved with her and wound up being elected president of the local chapter of the local Labrador Retriever Club a year later.

I loved to garden. She loved to craft. It wasn't long before we were both gardening and crafting together. We sold those crafts and canned the food that we grew. I eventually moved to restoring old toys and antiques. When she became disabled, it kind of ended most of the serious gardening and crafting here. I still do some projects but there just isn't time or energy to do it all anymore. Now her interests have changed and are limited to what she is able to do and my interests revolve around taking care of everything else. Her condition dictates what she is capable of doing and it's likely that in the near future, I will find interest in the things that interest her. Yes. I DO wish it could be like it was for us 37 years ago but the reality is that it just isn't possible anymore. I have been changed several times over the years.

This is very sweet and loving story about your parents. Thank you for sharing a glimpse of tenderness and respect your parents did for each other.

Sometimes that was the case. I had no idea roadrunners were so small. The one on the cartoons looks large!

That is sweet. My hubby grew up on a greenhouse farm. They started geraniums and other flowers as seeds, cared for them until they were big enough to transplant into containers and planters or just to be sold for people to plant in the ground themselves. I have always admired that nurturing quality that he has. I have seen him apply this to many scenerios over the course of time. I do love planting flowers and plants and watching them grow, I guess that I get that from him.

Yes, this happened in my marriage, even if we had so much in common with my husband even before getting married.

I’ve been with my husband since 1988. I can’t remember. I do recall that he went swimming a lot with me before we married and now he won’t get in any water unless I really beg. He fooled me into thinking he loved water like I do .
