Let’s see….at 9 AM I ordered a new TV and microwave. Here, at 2 PM, all of that has been delivered and set up, and here I am, ready to bomb you with another song from 1962! Here’s a song that you may know because it was “recently” (40 years ago, which is closer than 60 years ago
) covered.
Break It to Me Gently - Brenda Lee
Little Miss Dynamite! (I’ve met her, and she is quite small in stature.) I don’t know if you heard or not, but Dolly Parton was announced as one of the new inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She’s not the first woman to be in both rock and country halls. Brenda Lee is in both.
And here she is, showing off that “dynamite” voice (the nickname came from a song called “Dynamite,” not from her singing….although her voice qualifies as well [she was 18 when she recorded this]) on a song that later became a hit for Juice Newton.
What a legendary talent! No wonder she’s in both halls of fame (as well as the Rockabilly Hall of Fame)!
Break It to Me Gently
Written by Joe Seneca and Diane Lampert
Recorded by Brenda Lee
From …Let Me Sing, 1962
So my tears won’t fall too fast:

@FourWalls I think so too. I believe when she was a kid, she was thought to be a little adult.

Amazing how the people who started young had such powerful voices and maintained them!

Younger people probably relate this to Juice Newton.

@FourWalls I agree. He loved country music. Played in a country music band.

I’m not a “major” fan, but her song “Johnny One Time” is on my 100 favorites list.

It’s amazing how those “kids” had such powerful voices! And it never changed, so we can’t attribute it to “puberty.” Alex Chilton was just 16 when he sang lead on “The Letter” by the Box Tops. Steve Winwood was also that age when he started recording with the Spencer Davis Group.
