K and I spent a good part of today working in our back yard getting our garden planted. Okay, she did the planting. I put up the fences to keep Sophie from digging up the seeds. I also put up some fencing around the Cyprus trees I planted last weekend to keep Ace from "watering" them. We are hoping to have a good crop of veggies to grace our table this year. Do you garden? Is this the time of year you plant?

I no longer have a garden, When I did and lived in Latvia we had a greenhouse for tomatoes and cucumbers and outside we grew potatoes and we had strawberries.

We grew potatoes one year by mistake. My wife had thrown some old potatoes out into the yard for the wild critters to eat. The next spring, we had homegrown potatoes.

We're doing the drought tolerant thing . . . we really have to be mindful of our water usage here - starting June 1 we can only water outdoors once a week . So no edibles here, just plants that could stand less watering. Hope you have a wonderful harvest when the time comes!!

I wish you luck. I have an herbal garden at the moment. Here is is a constant struggle to keep the resident animals at bay.

K has a hydroponic indoor herbal garden Son2 gave her for either Christmas or her birthday years ago. We get a lot of fresh chive, basil, and other nice fresh herbs from it.

I garden but mine are mostly flowers. It's been years since we tried to grow any veggies. Maybe once I retire will try again. We wait longer before planting anything because o our area has had a hard Frost as late as June before. It's not every year though. Some people can cover all their new plantings but I don't have that kind of time. So I wait.

My missus plants flowers as well as the veggies. We always have a lot of beautiful blooms around our house all spring and summer.

Smart moves on your part. I had a raised bed garden built last month with netting around it, a door, and a wire top. It better keep the deer and birds out. I planted most of my veggies, but have a few more plants and seeds to put in. Love picking fresh veggies for dinner! Enjoy yours and hope you get lots of goodies. Love that multi-faceted planter!!!!

Thus far it doesn't seem we'll need to put tops on our planting beds as deer haven't been a problem. The tower garden actually lets us grow an incredible range and number of veggies.

@DianneN I will have to check with K, but, I think the top is carrots and onions. The higher levels are bell peppers, lettuces, kale. The lower levels have cucumbers and squash. We planted the tomatoes in a raised garden of their own.

@DWDavis Lucky you! I will look for one of those tower gardens and keep it on my deck. I assume tomatoes, zucchini, and other large plants won’t do well in them. What do you grow in it?

I just need to cut the back garden and that is looking pretty daunting! Must get some bedding plants for the front planter

Looking good! Nothing beats fresh veggies from your garden. We did community gardening and my Uncle when alive and well, tended to his vegetable garden & shared with us. My tiny backyard is potted plants. Only me, so hesitate for a vegetable to plant... harvest time yielding might be too much.

I wish you well with your garden. We use to have a pretty good size garden but when Mike's dad got sick and our time was taken with caring for him, we stopped. Mike hasn't wanted to get back into it since.
