Did you know that only three western movies have come away with Oscars? It's rather sad since there are so many really good western movies. I'm sure for most of you Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid come to mind. That was made in 1969. Did you know that this band of robbers made their first bank robbery in Montpelier, Idaho, and made away with just $7,000?The movie goes on to tell a richly fictionalized story of their lives. The movie "Unforgiven" is said by many experts to be the best of the westerns ever made. It was made in 1992 and grossed over $159 million at the box office. It also brought in 4 academy awards, 2 Golden Globes, wins 2 British film awards. It was a great movie. It fills the void of what many Westerners only gloss over and that is the subject of killing. What about "Once Upon a Time in The West" made in 1968? This film is said to have the most engaging first ten minutes of any movie before or since. No dialogue and only the creaking of the windmill, the dripping water, the buzzing fly, and the musical score really draws you in. I was brought up on westerns on television. These I think are the best of the most recent movies of that genre. Don't even get me started on the television shows.

My husband is a Western fan. I will watch them with him; but I'm not a fan of most of the movies.

I get in the mood occasionally to watch them. I like "Wagon Train" and it shows on MeTV each day.

Hey, $7000 in the early 1900s was a heck of a lot of money.
