A Bagel and Cream Cheese a Day

Over the last couple of weeks, I seem to have acquired a real liking for bagels and cream cheese for I have had one each day for my breakfast. When you figure that a medium-sized plain bagel has about 275 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 1.5 grams of fiber, and 11 grams of protein that isn't too bad. Add to that the cream cheese I slather on each half I come away with about 100 calories, 29.3 grams of fat, 0 fiber, and 2 grams of protein. So, all together I am getting about 13 grams of protein, 1.5 grams of fiber, and all in about 375 calories. Plus I am getting a bit of sodium with these too. I have to go back to the bowl of Spoon-Sized Shredded Wheat I was having. A bowl of these is about 170 calories with 2.5 grams of fat, 13.7 grams of protein, and 6 grams of fiber. That isn't even adding in the milk. Ouch! Yeah, tomorrow it's shredded wheat for me.

Modern-day bagels are nothing like the ones my uncles would bring from some deli in Toronto when I was a kid... they were solid and took some chewing. I just drank a 540 mL/19 fl.oz. can of tomato juice... really hit the spot.

Nothing is as good nowadays as it was when we were young. I have some more V-8 juice I should drink.

I love the really good bagels from a Jewish deli or bakery. I used to eat Shredded Wheat when I was a kid. I haven't had cereal in decades.

I would love to be able to afford to have eggs and omelets and big breakfasts but can only afford cereal or something like it.

Wow I'm impressed how you know the exact calories and fats that are into them. I just never counted how much goes into my body. I lost 3kg from 56kkg down to 53kg in two weeks. And that's for skipping rice every dinner and just eating salad along with other food. But I eat a lot of food. Especially during lunch time.

I looked them all up. I think it is okay to eat more during the time of day when we are most active. We can work it off.

Same here. I need something with more fiber though than what the bagel seemed to have.

@kobesbuddy.........I have seen them too. I usually get the onion ones. I love whole wheat but the kids don't.
