I am lucky to have the cable stations like TCM, AMC, and such that show the old movies. On TCM they even show some silent movies from the 20s. I don't care for those but enjoy movies from the mid-'30s to 1960. The '60s era was a lot of dumb comedies and such off-the-wall stuff I just didn't care for much of it. In the mid 30's you have such greats as "Gone With the Wind"(1939), the Thin Man series(1934-1939) with one of my all-time favorites, William Powell, "The Wizard of Oz"(1939), "Frankenstein" (several came out in the '30s with Boris Karloff) and Bela Lugosi as "Dracula" in 1931, "Topper"(1937) with Cary Grant and Constance Bennett(such a cute couple of movies. They are ghosts), "Women"(1939) with Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, and Rosalind Russell, and "Love Affair"(1939)with Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer. And the list goes on and on. Many silly comedies with such greats as The Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy came out. Many of the old gangster movies with Edward G. Robinson, James Cagney, George Raft and Humphrey Bogart started during this era. The first make of "Scar Face" comes out in 1932 with Paul Muni in the lead. Disney came out with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1937. His first full-length animated movie. Such greats as James Stewart, Loretta Young, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Mae West, and Errol Flynn got their starts during the '30s. My next series will be the movies of the forties.

I really enjoy many of the mid to late 30s movies. People were so different then.

I have grown up with Gone with the wind and I have taken each generation of my family to see it.

I saw it for the first time downtown at the old Egyptian Theater. Sat up in the balcony.
