1962 Songs: She’s Got You

Do I know when to get the heck out of Dodge or what? My weather app is set to follow me, and since I hadn’t opened it since I got home it was sending me notes from Pigeon Forge….things like “heavy rain has been detected” and “lightning has been detected.” None of that here, just very warm sunshine. Let’s turn on the music and bask in the late spring! Here’s another song from 1962 that has survived for sixty years and maintains popularity today. She’s Got You - Patsy Cline I’ve got a head full of feeling higher And an earful of Patsy Cline There is just no one who can touch her Hell, I’ll hang on every line (Jimmy Buffett) I don’t know if you heard or not, but Dolly Parton is one of the 2022 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If that confuses you, go listen to her song “Potential New Boyfriend.” But for me, if there had been another country singer inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it would have been Patsy Cline. Why? Because rockers know who she was. In addition to the Buffett line quoted above, punk’s Dead Milkmen even referenced her in a song! If you read my snooze-a-thon last night about Chet Atkins and the “Nashville Sound,” then you’ll think it’s coincidental that the queen of the Nashville Sound would show up this morning. No, just a coinkydinky. And hey, it’s another Hank Cochran song! He also wrote “A Little Bitty Tear,” used earlier in the countdown. If you watch the video you’ll see that Patsy had a headband on. That was to hide a nasty scar on her forehead, which she received in a serious car wreck in 1961. After she recovered she reportedly told a friend, “I’ve survived two accidents. The third one’s either gonna be a charm, or it’s gonna kill me.” On March 5, 1963, her words came true. She was only 30. I can’t say much about the song, because it’s Patsy. So enjoy. She’s Got You Written by Hank Cochran Recorded by Patsy Cline From Sentimentally Yours, 1962 Has it got me?

I don't remember this one but it might have been one of the songs that played on my little red radio when I was a kid.

There was a time when a song could be wildly popular in one place and unknown in another part.

My favorite country singers were Loretta Lyn and Johnnie Cash. Dolly Parton and Hank Williams were close seconds.

I love Patsy Cline; but this isn't one of my favorites.

I don’t think we got any rain last night. It finally rained here this afternoon after threatening for a couple of hours. And yes, THAT was a great voice.
