So this past weekend I took mom to her first Renaissance festival. Normally I like to plan these things out more so, but this I had just seen come up in my Facebook feed and we went all spur of the moment like. It was one of the smallest fests I have ever been to, but that is ok. Incase you're unfamiliar with them - Renaissance Festivals are outdoor events that have vendors, food, drink, entertainment and roving characters that all fit the theme. Common entertainment includes singing, dancing, comedy and other "side show" type acts like fire juggling and sword swallowing . Perhaps one of the best parts is the "roving" characters - kings, queens, washer women, mud men, jesters... all interact with guests. Some of the attendees too will show up in costume. It;s what you might expect - royalty, knights, Vikings, pirates, and sometimes it's unexpected like flappers and gangsters :-D Mom had a great time and I did too. I love these things, in particular the smaller fests. There's a number of them around, Renaissance theme, Western theme, Vikings theme, - so much love goes into it, I think it reminds people to play. That's a coincidence. I am going to one this weekend. I had planned to go on Mother's Day, but it was uncharacteristically freezing that day.

@FayeHazel No, and I sure wouldn't Sunday if we go. It is going to be about 90 degrees . If we go, we will go early and get out before the heat cranks up.

@snowy22315 wow that's pretty warm! I know I try and choose cooler things to wear to these events when it's gonna be warm. But I know one person who goes with a full velvet cape ... it's beautiful but wow how hot

Yes, it's good to get reminded to play, especially for adults. The Renaissance Festivals sound fun! I have never attend such event before. Glad you and your mom had fun!

@xander6464 Come on up for some Pizza Pub! It's great. But the real question is thick or thin crust

That would be great fun. I suppose they have them here. I know they have Goth nights in my son's city. He doesn't go but his friend does.
