I have become one of those obnoxious people who now complains about indoor working spaces being too cold

This is my 21st year of teaching. For 20 years I was in 2nd floor classrooms that were poorly ventilated and that had no air conditioning. It could get brutal. I remember measuring my classroom at 93 degrees INSIDE before the students ever even arrived. I have asthma. One little fan wasn't going to do it. I'd be beyond lethargic by the time that it was time to leave. We didn't have central AC at the house and my ex was lazy and never wanted to rush to put the window units in. One year he just took a look at me when he got back from work, apologized, and immediately installed them. My district has been involved in a huge infrastructure project and over the summer they replaced all of the original heaters in the classrooms in my building with new heat/AC units. They are louder than an airplane engine but they keep the classroom cool. The problem is that we don't have control over the temperature. It was 78 degrees F today and I wore a short-sleeved polo shirt and long khaki pants. The AC kicked on and blasted out cold air. I was freezing! I don't know how to dress these days. It will be 76 tomorrow. Will we just have open windows or will the AC be chilling us all down? I know. I know. First world problems. It is just tough when you need to have a short sleeved, long sleeved, and sweat shirt on hand on any given warm day. The good news is that these loud-mouthed suckers are being replaced because the noise they make is beyond unacceptable. I still don't think they will ever give us the power to control the temperature of the classroom though.

I know what you mean because my boss has to make me change desk because the air from AC goes to my back and makes me sick. I have to wear blazers when it gets really cold.

I used to work in offices where it was like snowy weather. I sometimes get sick because of it.

That’s a shame. If it were me I’d wear light clothing and bring a jacket.

I think you should be allowed to adjust the temp in your classroom.

Had the same problem as a student, too. It was almost like a fridge in the classrooms. So much so we carried sweaters and long sleeves or had a jacket on hand. Fun times.

Just keep a long sleeved shirt with you to be safe.
