Knowing a Murder Victim

You don't have to know a murder victim to share. This is a picture from the Murray Bombing Memorial in Oklahoma City. Do any of you remember April 15, 1995? I was in the attic of my school building, running the spotlight with a friend for our school program that night. We were sitting by each other, and BAM! The entire building shook. Turned out, as you may remember, 168 people were killed by a bomb in a Ryder truck parked near the Alfred P. Murrah building.
Even though it's been there for like 20 years, I had never visited the memorial or the museum. My friend and I decided to go today, on her day off. I was glad we went. The most eerie part of the museum was when you walk into a room, and they play a recording of a Water Resources board meeting that was taking place at 9am that day. You listen to mundane meeting talk, when it's interrupted by the sound of a huge explosion. That was very impactful.
The whole place was like a time capsule, and I highly recommend visiting. It's more healing than depressing, especially if you experienced it. My dad's cousin was one of the people killed, sadly. Did you know there is one victim that has never been identified?
The picture of the clock was taken today. It was recovered from the rubble, as it had stopped at 9:02am, the moment of the bombing.
Do any of you guys remember this?

I do not remember even hearing about this before now. Was it ever discovered the why of the bombing?
My eldest daughter would have been in first grade at that time and it wasn't a good year for me. Plus we didn't watch the news that I remember.

@AmbiePam McVeigh's name sounds familiar so maybe I did hear about it back then. Did anyone ever hear why they bombed the building?

@MarshaMusselman They were anti government, and said it was retaliation for the incidents of Waco and Ruby Ridge. At the time I had to look up Ruby Ridge because I was too young to remember it.

The clock is eerie. I certainly remember the bombing. McVeigh and cohorts were certainly crazy, you can be mad at the government all you like, but don't blow up innoccent people in your hatred of the fed. I have been to the 9/11 Memorial in PA. It is very impressive. They hadn't started building the memorial for it yet in NYC the last time I was there. They still had pictures of the missing all around in public places.

Wow, you were close to it when it happened. What happened at the play, did you guys evacuate? I imagine that is quite stirring, hearing the audio and seeing the clock. Sorry about your dad's cousin. Happy you were ok though. I remember about that.

We were about seven miles away from the blast. A lot of people don't realize it destroyed many buildings, and killed people outside of just that building. Even 7 miles away we felt it which tells how big a blast it was. We (the upper grades) spent the rest of the day watching it play out on TV.
They still had the play that night. I asked my dad years later why, and it's because so many people called wanting to come to church that night. I attended a Christian school, and the play that Wednesday night was at church. We had people I had never seen at that church that night. I remember college kids attending, just crying.

I don't remember that at all. I was still in school and rarely paid attention to the news at that age. I've lived in Florida my entire life, so I wasn't aware of it.
